Alert

**REMINDER** the City of Ferris Remains Under Mandatory Stage II Water Restrictions.

Ferris Residents and Businesses:

The Texas Water Code and the regulation of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) require that the City adopt a Drought Contingency Plan to account for natural limitations and drought conditions. The City of Ferris will remain under Mandatory Stage II Water Restrictions, as defined by our Drought Contingency Plan. Without a reduction in usage, the City will be required to move to Stage III Water Restrictions.

With Stage II Mandatory Restrictions, non-essential water usage is prohibited. Landscape and lawn watering will be restricted to Wednesday and Saturday only.

Nonessential water use is defined as: Water use that is neither essential nor required for the protection of public health, safety, and welfare, including:
(a)          Irrigation of landscapes areas, including parks, athletic fields, golf courses, except as otherwise provided under this plan;
(b)          Use of water to wash any motor vehicle, motorbike, boat, trailer, airplane, or other vehicle;
(c)           Use of water to wash down sidewalks, walkways, driveways, parking lots, tennis courts, or other hard-surface areas;
(d)          Use of water to wash down building or structures for the purpose other than immediate fire protection;
(e)          Flushing gutters or permitting water to run or accumulate in any gutter or street;
(f)           Use of water to fill, refill, or add to any indoor or outdoor swimming pools or jacuzzi;
(g)           Use of water in a fountain or pond for aesthetic or scenic purposes except where necessary to support aquatic life;
(h)          Failure to repair a controllable leak(s) within a reasonable period after having been given notice directing the repair of such leak(s).

These restrictions will be rescinded when water demand falls to a level that both drought conditions and natural limitations support. Usage will be monitored daily and notice of the rescinded restrictions will be sent out promptly, when appropriate.

Please Note: As defined pursuant to Title 30, Texas Administrative Code Chapter 291, any customer failing to comply with the provisions of the Plan shall be subject to a surcharge and/or fine up to five hundred dollars ($500.00) and/or discontinuance of water service by the City.

The City of Ferris is one (1) of one hundred and eighty-six (186) systems in the state of Texas currently implementing provisions of their Drought Contingency Plan, with 99.04% of Ellis County being labeled as “Abnormally Dry” by the United States Drought Monitor. We appreciate your assistance in working to reduce the usage of water during these conditions. If you have any questions, please contact 972.544.2110, option 1.
