Join the Youth Advisory Commission

The City is inviting residents between the ages of 13 and 18 to apply to join the City of Hoboken’s Youth Advisory Commission. Parent volunteers are also encouraged to apply.

The Commission serves as an opportunity to encourage leadership development and advocacy for positive change in the community. Its purpose is to establish a working relationship between the City government and the community's youth by giving them a voice on issues that matter most to them and providing them with a mechanism to effectuate change on the issues they have identified. This year the Commissions focus will be on understanding local government.

The Commission consists of 12 members who will be appointed by Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla and the City Council following an evaluation process.

Applicants must be residents of the City of Hoboken, students in 6th – 12th grade, and be between the ages of 13 and 18 as of Sept. 1, 2023.

The Commission will serve for the duration of the 2023-2024 school year and will require two in-person meetings per month.

Applications can be submitted online by clicking here. The deadline to apply either online or at the City Clerk's Office is Friday, Sept. 15, by 4 p.m.

To learn more about the opportunity to be a parent volunteer or be on the YAC, contact the Office of Constituent Services at [email protected] or Councilman Joe Quintero at [email protected]

Be a Hoboken Crossing Guard!

The City of Hoboken's Public Safety Department is accepting applications for crossing guards ahead of the 2023-2024 school year.

Thousands of young residents walk to and from school during the academic year, and crossing guards are needed to assist them in getting where they are going safely. Crossing guards oversee and control traffic flow around schools in the morning, at lunch time, and at dismissal.

Crossing guard positions in Hoboken are part-time, under the direction of the Hoboken Police Department, and include 25-hours per week, sick and vacation time, and holiday pay when applicable. Starting salaries are $16/hour, with an increase to $17/hour after the first year of employment. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, pass a background check, be able to deal with children of all ages, remain calm and decisive in emergencies, and respond to resident inquiries and complaints. Those hired will receive at least 20 hours of training by the Hoboken Police Department.

For more information about the role or to submit an application for crossing guard and other open positions in the City of Hoboken, go to www.hobokennj.gov/jobs.
