**IMPD Arrests Armed Serial Robbery Suspect**
INDIANAPOLIS- IMPD Robbery detectives arrested 54-year-old Robert Williams who is suspected of being involved in as many as 8 incidents in the Indianapolis area.
Following a comprehensive investigation into a series of armed business robbery incidents, in the Indianapolis area, IMPD robbery detectives began investigating to identify a potential suspect. By using various investigative techniques, detectives were able to identify Robert Williams as a suspect.
On August 14, detectives located Williams in the 1800 block of E. 34th Street and detained him. During the stop, officers discovered Williams was in possession of handgun. Williams was interviewed and later arrested for robbery (at 2131 Central Ave), two active warrants, unlawful possession of firearm by serious violent felon, and possession of narcotics.
Another individual was arrested during this investigation on unrelated charges of unlawful possession of firearm by serious violent felon and dealing narcotics.
This case remains active and there is potential for additional charges after the case is reviewed. The IMPD Downtown District Violent Crimes Task Force, IMPD Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), and the Indiana Crime Gun Task Force (ICGTF) units assisted with this investigation.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and make the final charging decision. An arrest is merely an accusation. Williams should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
