Arizona Man Evades Deputies Before Steering Car into Canal with His Child and Another Passenger Trapped Inside

LOCATION: Rio Vista and Hwy 62, Big River, CA
SUSPECT(S): Rick Holt, 44-years-old, Resident of Parker, AZ
VICTIM(S): 6-year-old Child

SUMMARY: On Monday, August 14, 2023, at approximately 3:35 p.m., deputies from the Colorado River Station / Needles Police Department contacted Rick Holt during a traffic enforcement stop near Rio Vista and Hwy 62 in Big River. Upon contact, Holt fled the scene and began driving recklessly, running three stop signs, in an attempt to elude deputies. The suspect led duputies on a pursuit through residential streets from Big River, for 20 miles into the state of Arizona. The pursuit terminated when the suspect jumped from the vehicle, failing to put the vehicle in park and allowing the vehicle to roll into a farming irrigation canal with his 6-year-old son and a female adult trapped inside. Deputies jumped into the irrigation canal and were able to break out the back window in order to get the juvenile and adult female out of the vehicle before it submurged. After Holt fled the scene, he was caputured in the canal approximately one-quarter of a mile away from the scene.
Rick Holt was arrested on the above charges and transported to the Colorado River Station jail for booking. Holt remains in the custody of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department with a combined bail amount of $177,000.00, awaiting a court hearing.
