Police Seek Help in Identifying Pedestrian Hit and Run Suspect and Vehicle

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé requests the public’s help in identifying the below-pictured female suspect and vehicle in connection with a pedestrian hit and run that occurred on Tuesday, August 8, 2023.
 
At approximately 7:50 p.m., Police responded to Sanford Avenue and South Orange Avenue on a call of a pedestrian struck. The adult victim was crossing the street when she was struck by a vehicle. The driver exited her vehicle to assist the victim to the sidewalk before returning to her vehicle and fleeing, headed southbound on Sanford Avenue.
 
The victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment and is reportedly in stable condition.
 
Detectives investigating this incident describe the suspect as a Black female with long braided hair. She was wearing a black jumpsuit and pink slippers. The suspect vehicle is described as a yellow 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt bearing New Jersey registration number: Y17RKZ.
 
Director Fragé urges anyone with information about the identity of this suspect or the whereabouts of this vehicle to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
