Press Release: Juveniles Arrested After Driving Two Stolen Vehicles in Fremont

Juveniles Arrested for Vehicle Theft

In response to an increase in stolen vehicle incidents, specifically involving Kia and Hyundai brand vehicles, the Fremont Police Department General Investigations Unit began a targeted effort to identify and arrest those responsible for these vehicle thefts.  On August 9, 2023, the Fremont Police Department General Investigations Unit located a stolen vehicle driven by a juvenile driver with juvenile passengers in Fremont.   Fremont Detectives followed the stolen vehicle and attempted to find a safe location to arrest the suspects.  Before detectives could locate a safe location, the driver stopped in a residential area in Fremont, where all the juveniles exited the stolen vehicle.  The juveniles were then observed immediately getting into a second stolen vehicle.   An Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Air Unit maintained surveillance of this stolen vehicle as it drove around Fremont.  Detectives ultimately followed the stolen vehicle to a residence in Fremont and witnessed the occupants of the vehicle go inside.

Fremont Detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence and contacted several people inside, including three juvenile suspects who were observed driving the two stolen vehicles. Located inside the residence were the keys to the second stolen vehicle.

Three juveniles, all residents of Fremont, were arrested for Vehicle Code 10851(a) – taking a vehicle not their own with the intent to deprive the owner.   Two juveniles were issued a notice to appear in court and were released to the custody of their parent or guardian. The third juvenile suspect was taken to Juvenile Hall.

We want to thank Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Air Unit for their assistance during this incident.
