Mayor Anthony Copeland and the City Common Council invite you to a Street Dedication Ceremony in Honor of Robert "Boss" Hoggs.

What: Honorary Street naming for Robert "Boss" Hoggs. 
Where: 3800 Block of Butternut Street
When: Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 12:00 noon.

Robert Hoggs was responsible for helping many young people get jobs in the City of East Chicago. A full-time fan of East Chicago Central basketball teams and his church home Zion Missionary Baptist Church-East Chicago, Indiana. 

Let's come out and celebrate in Honor with his wife Sandra Hoggs and family.

In 1972 history was made when he was the first African American to be appointed by the late Mayor Robert Pastrick as, Street Commissioner for the City of East Chicago, where he gained the name "Boss Hoggs" and in 1975 he was elevated to Director of General Services, followed by his appointment as chief of staff in 1999 where he served until retirement in 2005.

Mr. Hogg's love for children led him to adopt many children of the 100 Voice Children's Choir each year and adopted several Missionary women on the Mother's Board during the holidays. He served as a Special Advisor to Rev. Dr. J.C. Wade, Jr., in the construction and building in 1977 and served on the church's 100-year anniversary committee.

Mr. Bob Hoggs was a Lifetime Member of the NAACP, Past Commissioner of the East Chicago Human Rights Commission, Member of Fair Share Organization, Member of the State & East Chicago Chapter Black Expo, Member of the Lake County Democratic Committee, Member of the Foundations of East Chicago Board of Directors

The resolution was sponsored by Kenny "Coach" Monroe, Council At Large, Gilda Orange, 6th District Councilwoman, Stacy Winfield,4th District Council, Robert Garcia, 5th District Council and Dwayne Rancifer, Council At Large.
