Crime Alert Bulletin Covering the Week of August 7-13, 2023
When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.
Robberies
There were two robberies during the past week.
On Friday, 08-11-23, between 11:00 p.m. and midnight, near the intersection of Southgate Avenue and Coronado Avenue, a victim was walking when three male suspects knocked him to the ground and repeatedly punched and kicked him. The suspects stole $800 and a Samsung cell phone from the victim’s pants pocket. After the suspects fled, the victim found his cell phone a few feet away.
On Saturday, 08-12-23, at approximately 9:35 a.m., at the Westlake Shopping Center, an officer was flagged down by a Ross employee who had been pepper sprayed by a suspect. Ross employees stated that five suspects entered the store; two went to the upstairs level, while three remained downstairs. One of the employees saw the three suspects, who were downstairs, select multiple miscellaneous merchandise. All five suspects met each other at the downstairs level, and employees noticed multiple suspects holding merchandise exit without paying. The last suspect exiting pepper sprayed two employees. The pepper spray made contact with one of the employees. Officers located four of the five suspects near Starbucks. Approximately $425 worth of merchandise was stolen. Merchandise was found in front of Joann’s, additional merchandise was found on a suspect, and a shirt was found in a fanny pack belonging to another suspect. A 19-year-old Oakland resident was arrested and booked into jail for robbery, conspiracy, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. One juvenile was arrested and booked into the Youth Services Center for robbery and conspiracy. A second juvenile was arrested and booked into the Youth Services Center for robbery, conspiracy, providing false identification to the police, and an outstanding warrant. The third juvenile was arrested and booked into the Youth Services Center for robbery, conspiracy, and providing false identification to the police.
Residential Burglaries
There were two residential burglaries during the past week.
On Tuesday, 08-08-23, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:45 p.m., on the unit block of 2nd Avenue, a suspect stole a bicycle, a shop vacuum, a shoe shelf, clothes, shoes, and car cleaning supplies, valued at approximately $1,200 from the garage.
On Saturday, 08-12-23, between 11:00 a.m. and 9:45 p.m., on the unit block of Poncetta Drive, a suspect forced open a storage unit located in the garage and stole shoes, sports jerseys, clothing, and business checks, all valued at approximately $10,000.
Commercial Burglaries
There were three commercial burglaries during the past week.
On Monday, 08-07-23, between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., a victim had her wallet containing a CA driver’s license and three credit cards stolen from a locker at the 24 Hour Fitness facility located on Gellert Boulevard. **Online report.
On Tuesday, 08-08-23, between 4:40 p.m. and 5:21 p.m., a victim had her wallet containing a CA driver’s license, credit cards, insurance medical card, and $300 stolen from a locker at the Planet Fitness facility located on Junipero Serra Boulevard. The suspect(s) used the stolen credit cards at retail stores, but the transactions were declined. The victim recalled two suspects hovering around in the locker room. The first suspect was described as a heavyset Black female in her 40s wearing a black dress and gray pants. The second suspect was described as a thin Black female in her 30s wearing a white dress. This investigation is continuing.
On Friday, 08-11-23, at approximately 12:40 a.m., EZ Auto Sales on Mission Street was the victim of a commercial burglary when two suspects cut the chain link fence and entered the parking lot. The first suspect proceeded to break the rear driver’s side window of a 2020 Infinity Q50. The first suspect entered the vehicle and appeared to put the gear into neutral. Next, both suspects attempted to push the vehicle out of the parking lot but were unsuccessful. The suspects fled in a dark gray Dodge Challenger. The first suspect was described as a slender male wearing a gray sweatshirt with the hood pulled up and dark pants. The second suspect was described as a slender male wearing a black sweatshirt with the hood pulled up and dark pants.
Vehicle Burglaries
There were four vehicle burglaries during the past week.
- Parking lot of 24 Hour Fitness on Gellert Boulevard—a car key was taken from a locker inside the gym and then used to unlock a 2019 Merced-Benz GLC. A wallet, credit cards, and work phone were taken from the glove compartment. Occurred on 08-07-23 between 6:30 p.m. and 7:35 p.m.
- 1300 block of Brunswick Street—power tools were taken from a 2020 Toyota Tacoma. The toolboxes on the bed of the truck were pried open. Occurred between 7:30 p.m. on 08-08-23 and 8:00 a.m. on 08-09-23.
- Hillside Boulevard and East Moltke Street—power tools were taken from a 2019 Ford F150. The rear driver’s side window was smashed. Occurred on 08-12-23 at approximately 5:00 a.m.
- 3000 block of Geneva Avenue—a bag, Sony Camera, and lens were taken from a 2022 Tesla Model S. A window was smashed. Occurred on 08-12-23 between 10:48 p.m. and 10:49 p.m. **Online report.
Stolen Vehicles
There were six stolen vehicles and four attempted stolen vehicles during the past week. One vehicle was recovered.
- 100 block of Bismark Street—a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado. Occurred between 8:00 p.m. on 08-08-23 and 7:00 a.m. on 08-09-23.
- 100 block of Roosevelt Avenue—a 1990 Honda Accord. Occurred between 11:00 p.m. on 08-09-23 and 4:54 a.m. on 08-10-23. **Recovered by Pacifica PD on 08-10-23.
- Evergreen Avenue and Irvington Street—a 2013 Infinity G37. Occurred between 8:00 p.m. on 08-10-23 and 7:50 a.m. on 08-11-23.
- 400 block of Rio Verde Street—a 1995 Acura Integra. Occurred on 08-10-23 between 9:38 p.m. and 10:38 p.m.
- 700 block of Hillside Boulevard—a 2014 Infiniti Q50. Occurred between 11:30 p.m. on 08-10-23 and 6:50 a.m. on 08-11-23.
- 7300 block of Mission Street—a 2018 Kia Sportage. Occurred on 08-12-23 between 4:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.
- Unit block of Hillcrest Avenue—an attempted theft of a 2015 Scion XB. Occurred between 8:30 p.m. on 08-09-23 and 8:30 a.m. on 08-10-23.
- 1000 block of San Antonio Circle—an attempted theft of a 2010 Kia Forte. Occurred between 6:00 p.m. on 08-12-23 and 1:30 p.m. on 08-13-23. **Online report.
- Parking garage on the 1800 block of Junipero Serra Boulevard—an attempted theft of a 2022 Kia. Occurred on 08-12-23 between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. **Online report.
- Unit block of Forest Grove Drive—an attempted theft of a 2018 Kia Soul. Occurred between 7:00 p.m. on 08-13-23 and 7:00 a.m. on 08-14-23.
Miscellaneous
- There were 142 cases taken.
- There were 16 domestic disturbance cases reported.
- There were 2 cases involving an involuntary psychiatric hold.
- There were 16 malicious mischief/vandalism cases reported.
- There were 2 cases for public intoxication.
- There were 2 hit-and-run collisions reported.
- There were 4 narcotics-related cases taken.
Community Events/Information
Free Compost Giveaway—August 23 & 24, 2023, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., 153 Lake Merced Boulevard
The City of Daly City is partnering with its waste hauler, Republic Services, to host a free compost giveaway. Compost will be available on a first-come, first-served basis (08/23/23 & 08/24/23, between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.), while supplies last. This event will be held at the Department of Water & Wastewater Resources located at 153 Lake Merced Boulevard, Daly City, CA 94015. To participate in the compost giveaway, please bring a sturdy container, shovels, and gloves for this self-serve event. Daly City PAL Richard Brewer Memorial Golf Tournament Fundraiser—Monday, September 11, 2023
The Daly City Police Athletic League is hosting a golf tournament fundraiser on Monday, September 11, 2023, at the Lake Merced Golf Club located at 2300 Junipero Serra Boulevard, Daly City, CA 94015.
The cost is $450, which includes golf, lunch, and dinner. Tee off is at 11:30 a.m. Daly City PAL is a non-profit 501(c)(3). The donations may be tax deductible.
