Driver Hits Semi-Truck; Meridian Police Remind Drivers to Make a Plan Before Drinking
MERIDIAN- At approximately 1:00AM on August 18, 2023, officers responded to an injury crash involving a minivan and a semi-truck at the intersection of S Meridian Rd. and E Victory Rd. The minivan was traveling west bound on Victory Rd. when it struck the semi-truck which was traveling with a green light North Bound on S Meridian Rd.  Police believe alcohol was involved.

The driver of the minivan was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.

The Meridian Police Department would like to remind drivers to plan before consuming alcohol to make it home safely. Prior to drinking, follow these tips to protect yourself and others:
  • Plan your safe ride home before you drink choose a non-drinking friend as a designated driver.
  • If someone you know has been drinking, do not let that person get behind the wheel. Take their keys and help them arrange a sober ride home.
  • If you drink, do not drive for any reason. Call a taxi, a ride share service, or a sober friend.
  • If you’re hosting a party where alcohol will be served, make sure all guests leave with a sober driver.
  • Always wear your seat belt — it’s your best defense against impaired drivers.
Driving under the influence affects the entire community and is unsafe for all drivers on the road. If you see an impaired driver, contact local law enforcement. Your actions could help save someone’s life.

Charges are pending the completion of the investigation. Ada County Sheriff’s Office will be handling the crash reconstruction. Meridian Police Department would like to thank the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, Meridian Fire Department, Idaho State Police and Ada County Paramedics for their assistance with this morning’s crash, which closed the highway for several hours.
