Advisory

Heat and elevated fire danger continuing. The NHC predicts 30% chance of cyclone formation in next 7 days. See link:

BOTTOM LINE:
Oppressive heat and elevated fire danger will continue through the week and beyond.  The National Hurricane Center is still predicting a 30% chance for a cyclone formation across the western Gulf of Mexico within the next 7 days. Lots of uncertainty with this system but it could bring beneficial rainfall to parts of Texas. Not clear what the impacts for Southeast Texas will be (if any).

OVERVIEW:
Oppressive heat and elevated to critical fire danger continue across SE TX through at least this weekend. Dangerous temperatures and heat indices can be expected with high temperatures mainly in the triple digits and heat indices up to 110F. The environment remains favorable for fire starts and spread across much of the area through at least Saturday. Excessive Heat Warnings, Heat Advisories and Fire Weather Watches remain in effect. A broad area of low pressure system could develop over the Gulf of Mexico early next week.

A slow development of this system is possible as it moves westward and approaches the LA/TX coastline by the middle of next week. Given model patterns and conditions across the region, the National Hurricane Center continues to highlight the western Gulf of Mexico as an area with a 30 percent chance (low chance) for potential tropical cyclone development in the next 7 days. It is too early to pinpoint the exact evolution and track of this system as well as any impacts to Southeast TX at this time. Stay weather alert and continue to monitor the latest forecast updates over the next few days.
