Preparing for Hurricane Weather and Storm Preparedness
As Hurricane Hilary nears Southern California, the National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard is forecasting the potential for strong tropical storm force winds, heavy rainfall, and the potential for flash flooding.
Current tracking has the storm arriving on Sunday, August 20th, with the center making landfall in San Diego around 6 AM on Monday, August 21st. A flood watch warning for LA County, Ventura and Catalina Island has been put in effect starting Sunday afternoon through Monday evening.
In preparation for the storm's arrival, the West Hollywood Sheriff's Station wants to make sure you are prepared! Here are a few safety tips to prepare for the tropical storm:
- Make sure your tires have proper tread.
- Check to see if your windshield wipers are in good condition.
- Check your vehicles for working headlights/taillights.
- If you can, stay home and wait out the storm.
- If you must drive, drive slowly, safely and be aware of your surroundings.
- Avoid downed power lines and immediately report them to law enforcement.
