Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Recognizes National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day
The Calaveras County Sheriff's Office recognizes today, August 21st, 2023, as National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day. In partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), we stand together to raise awareness about the dangers and risks associated with Fentanyl. This powerful synthetic opioid has caused thousands of overdoses and fatalities nationwide.
The DEA reports that Fentanyl can be up to 50 times more potent than heroin and up to 100 times more powerful than morphine. Fentanyl and its analogs are commonly mixed with other substances, such as heroin and cocaine, leading to increased overdose fatalities. We want to emphasize that it is essential to be educated about the risks involved in using Fentanyl and to recognize the signs of an overdose.
Today, we urge our community to remember the lives lost to Fentanyl-related overdoses and to help educate others about the dangers of this deadly drug. Calaveras County Substance Use Services encourages anyone struggling with substance use to seek help through available resources. Substance Use Services can be found at 891 Mountain Ranch Road (Building L) in San Andreas, CA 95249, or you can reach them by telephone at (209) 754-6555.
