The National Weather Service and National Hurricane Center are forecasting the potential for Hurricane Hilary to impact central and southern California counties, including any area within Santa Barbara County. Moderate to heavy rain, strong winds, coastal storm surge and erosion, and hazardous sea conditions are possible. These conditions may start locally as early as Sunday afternoon (August 20).

Evacuations are NOT being issued at this time.  If you are concerned that this storm may cause unsafe conditions to your local roads and your home, leave the area before rain starts.  Do not wait for an official evacuation notification to leave.  

Residents should remain vigilant as conditions can change quickly. Residents are encouraged to:  

• MONITOR the weather
• PREPARE and PROTECT your home now
• PLAN on how to get out and where you might go

El Servicio Meteorológico Nacional y el Centro Nacional de Huracanes están pronosticando la posibilidad de que el Huracán Hilary impacte los condados del centro y sur de California, incluyendo las áreas dentro del Condado de Santa Bárbara. Lluvias moderadas a fuertes intensidades, vientos fuertes, oleada de tormenta y erosión costera, y condiciones peligrosas del mar son posibles. Estas condiciones pueden comenzar localmente tan pronto como la tarde del domingo (20 de agosto).

En este momento NO se han emitido evacuaciones. Si le preocupa que esta tormenta pueda causar condiciones inseguras en las carreteras locales y en su casa, desaloje el área antes de que empiece a llover.  No espere a recibir una notificación oficial de evacuación para irse. 

Los residentes deben permanecer alerta ya que las condiciones pueden cambiar rápidamente. Se recomienda a los residentes que:    

• MONITOREAR el estado del tiempo
• PREPARAR y PROTEGER su hogar ahora
• PLANIFICAR cómo pueden salir y adónde pueden ir
