URGENT: Prepare for Tropical Storm Hilary – Sandbags Available, Act Now!

Tropical Storm Hilary is rapidly approaching, with catastrophic flash flooding expected in the Mojave Desert and Kern County Mountains and excessive rainfall across Kern County. We urge you to take immediate and decisive action to ensure your safety and the safety of your loved ones.
 

Key Information:

  • Heavy Rainfall: Widespread flooding is anticipated in rivers, creeks, streams, low-lying areas, and roads. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris.
  • Sandbag Availability: Sandbags are available at Golden Hills CSD, 21415 Reeves St, Tehachapi, CA 93561, and sand has been delivered to the southeast corner of Highline and Tucker Road in Tehachapi.
     

Flash Flood Safety Measures:

  • Avoid Driving Through Flooded Areas: Even shallow, fast-moving water can sweep your vehicle away. Turn around, don't drown!
  • Collect Sandbags: Use sandbags to protect your property in areas that are prone to runoff.
  • Stay Informed: Monitor weather updates and follow guidance from local authorities.
  • Prepare an Emergency Kit: Include essential items such as water, non-perishable food, medications, and important documents.
