Hurricane Hilary Weather Advisory
As #hurricanehilary approaches SoCal, the US National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard is forecasting the potential for strong tropical storm force winds, heavy rainfall, and the potential for flash flooding.
As the City prepares for the storm’s arrival, we want to make sure that La Verne residents are prepared too!
Here are a few safety tips to prepare for the tropical storm:
• If you can, stay home and wait out the storm
• Secure outdoor furniture and umbrellas
• Prepare your emergency kit
• Know you evacuation route
• Ensure your tires have proper tread and windshield wipers
• Ensure your headlights/taillights are working properly
• If you must drive, use extra caution. Slow down and be aware of your surroundings
• Avoid downed power lines and immediately report them by calling 911
• Check on neighbors
The City of La Verne has crews on standby and is actively monitoring storm basins ahead of the anticipated rain. Sandbags (limit 10 per household, school, or business) are available 24/7. Shovels and bags with ties are provided:
