On August 19, 2023, at approximately 7:30 PM, personnel from the Petaluma Police Department were dispatched to Copeland Street and E Washington Street to a report of a robbery. The victim reported while in his vehicle waiting for the traffic light to cycle, a vehicle driven by Andriw Lopez Echeverria (26, Sonoma) drove up next to him. Lopez Echeverria exited his vehicle, requested his passenger provide him with his firearm, as he then approached the victim. Lopez Echeverria pointed the firearm at the victim and stole his wallet. Lopez Echeverria got back into his vehicle and fled towards Lakeville Street.
The victim immediately called the Petaluma Police Department and provided a description of Lopez Echeverria and the vehicle he was driving. Officers from the Petaluma Police Department located the vehicle in the area of Lakeville Highway and Casa Grande Road. A high-risk stop was performed on Lopez Echeverria and his passenger, Jose Rodriguez (25, Sonoma) who were both taken into custody with no further incident. While taking Lopez Echeverria into custody, he advised, his two-year-old son was in the backseat of the vehicle.
The victim responded to the scene and positively identified Lopez Echeverria. During the search of the vehicle a loaded firearm was located. Additionally, Lopez Echeverria showed objective signs of alcohol intoxication. After the investigation, Lopez Echeverria was placed under arrest for the following charges:
211 PC – Robbery
182(a)(1) PC – Conspiracy to Commit a Crime
273a(a) PC - Felony Child Endangerment
245(a)(2) PC - Assault with a Deadly Weapon – Firearm
23152(a)(b) CVC – Driving Under the Influence with a BAC of .08%
Hernandez Rodriguez was placed under arrest for the following charges:
211 PC – Robbery
182(a)(1) PC – Conspiracy to Commit a Crime
1203.2 PC – Violation of Probation
Lopez Echeverria's blood alcohol content was determined after a Chemical Test to be 0.15% BAC.
Lopez Echeverria and Hernandez Rodriguez were later booked at the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility on the above listed charges.
The 2-year-old child was released to a responsible family member.
The Petaluma Police Department wants to thank the reporting party for their assistance in identifying Lopez Echeverria and helping keep the community safe.
