L.A. County Public Works Issues Phase 3 Mud Flow Alert; Fish Fire Area Moves to Yellow Alert Level Today at 8 PM

Fish Fire Impact Area Yellow Alert and Road Closure:
Starting today, Sunday, August 20 at 8 PM, Melcanyon Road from Brookridge Road to Fish Canyon Road will be closed. We encourage residents to relocate their vehicles from the affected area. In conjunction with this, LA County Public Works has released a Phase 3 Debris Flow Alert for the Fish Fire Burn Scar. This signifies a notable risk for moderate to heavy mud and debris flows.

Tropical Storm Hillary and Potential Impact:
Anticipate rainfall rates of up to 1.5 inches per hour across LA County. We'd like to suggest that residents avoid travel from Sunday afternoon to Monday afternoon. The National Weather Service alerts us that flash flooding and debris flows are likely threats in San Gabriel Valley cities through Monday.

Sand Bags:
City Staff and LA County Fire Station 44 (1105 Highland Avenue, Duarte, CA 91010) has distributed several hundred sandbags, depleting inventories. LA County Fire is working on restocking sandbags, expected to be available later tonight or tomorrow morning.

Valley View Elementary School Notice:
Valley View Elementary School (237 Melcanyon Road) will remain open on Monday, August 21. However, parents cannot drop off or pick up students at Mel Canyon. School-related traffic should use Deerlane and enter from Greenbank.

City of Duarte's Emergency Operations Center (EOC):
Our Emergency Operations Center will activate today on Sunday, August 20, and operate until Unified Command partners, including L.A. County Public Works and L.A. County Fire Department, determine that storms and debris flow risks have diminished.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to Duarte Public Safety at (626) 357-7938.
