The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for... Southwestern Imperial County in southeastern California...

* Until 400 PM PDT.

* At 1155 AM PDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain across the warned area. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 1 hour. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Heavy rain producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... El Centro, Calexico, Brawley, Imperial, Plaster City, Ocotillo, Holtville, Westmorland, El Centro Naval Airfield, Mt. Signal, Mountain Spring, Calipatria, Dixieland, Seeley, Coyote Wells, Heber, Alamorio and Bonds Corner. This includes the following streams and drainages... Boulder Creek, Gert Wash, Tarantula Wash, Salt Creek Slough, Hemlock Canal, South Alamo Canal, Fish Creek Wash, New River, Alamo River, Ash Fifteen Drain, San Felipe Creek, Palm Canyon Wash, Carrizo Wash and Myer Creek.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.
