...FLOOD ADVISORY in effect for Los Angeles County until 8 PM PDT THIS EVENING...

National Weather Service has issued a FLOOD ADVISORY for LOS ANGELES COUNTY until 8 PM PDT THIS EVENING.

* WHAT...Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...A portion of southwest California, including the following county, Los Angeles.

* WHEN...Until 800 PM PDT Sunday.

* IMPACTS...Widespread roadway and small stream flooding is expected across Los Angeles county today, especially in low lying and poor drainage areas.Rapid rises in streams,creeks, and normally dry arroyos are expected, Dangerous flows will likely occur across Low-water crossings, especially in the Antelope Valley.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - Doppler radar indicated moderate to heavy rain overspreading across much of Los Angeles county, with rainfall rates between 0.20 and 0.50 inches per hour becoming common. Rain intensities will likely increase this afternoon and evening, with a Flood Watch in effect for the potential of dangerous and life threatening flash flooding.

Avoid unnecasary travel during this time road conditions are hazardouus.

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain.

Arroyos, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
