NWS issues Flood Watch. Use caution if you must go out. Do not touch downed power lines, report to 9-1-1

The National Weather Service issued a a Flood Watch for our area.  Tropical Storm Hilary is expected to bring high wind gusts up to 30 mph, and 5-7 inches of rain in a short period.  

Emergency personnel, Public Works staff, and City Management have activated the EOC and have plans in place to ensure the safety of Sierra Madre.  Additionally, The Police and Fire Departments will increase their patrols to further protect our community.

Residents can do their part, too.

-If you can, stay home and wait out the storm;
-If you must drive, use extra caution.  Slow down and be aware of your surroundings;
-Avoid downed power lines and report them immediately by calling 9-1-1; 
-Secure all outdoor furniture and umbrellas;
-Check on your vulnerable neighbors;
-turn off garden irrigation/sprinklers for up to 48 hours after the storm passes.
