The National Weather Service in Phoenix has extended the

* Flash Flood Warning for... Southwestern Imperial County in southeastern California...

* Until 600 PM PDT.

* At 349 PM PDT, local law enforcement reported heavy rain across the warned area. Between 0.5 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. Flash flooding is already occurring. Flooding impacts continue across the warned area with several reports of flooded roadways, running washes, boulders on roadways, and more. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Heavy rain producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Law enforcement reported. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... El Centro, Calexico, Brawley, Imperial, Plaster City, Ocotillo, Holtville, Westmorland, El Centro Naval Airfield, Mt. Signal, Mountain Spring, Calipatria, Dixieland, Seeley, Coyote Wells, Heber, Alamorio and Bonds Corner. This includes the following streams and drainages... Alamo River, San Felipe Creek, South Alamo Canal, Salt Creek Slough, Fish Creek Wash, Carrizo Wash, Myer Creek, Boulder Creek, Gert Wash, Hemlock Canal, Palm Canyon Wash, Tarantula Wash, Ash Fifteen Drain and New River.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.
