INDIANAPOLIS- Detectives arrested 50-year-old Michael Coleman for his alleged role in the Saturday homicide in the 3800 block of Hillside Avenue.
On Saturday, August 19, 2023, just before 1:00 pm, IMPD North District officers responded to the 2300 block of E. 38th Street on a report of a person shot. Officers arrived and located an adult male outside with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound(s) in the 3800 block of Hillside Avenue. Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (IEMS) arrived and transported the victim to an area hospital in critical condition. Shortly after arrival the victim was unfortunately pronounced deceased by medical personnel.
IMPD homicide detectives responded to the scene to begin the investigation. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to identify and collect potential forensic evidence. The Marion County Coroner’s Office (MCCO) is assisting and will determine the exact cause and manner of death. The MCCO will release the decedent's name once a proper next-of-kin notification has been made.
The investigation continued and investigators were able to identify Michael Coleman as the suspect in this case thanks to cooperation from witnesses. Coleman was located and arrested for murder.
An arrest is merely an accusation. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decisions. The individual should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
