Harris County Sheriff’s Office Honors Deputies, Detention Officers, and Other Teammates at Commendation Ceremony
August 21, 2023 – More than 115 Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies, detention officers, and other staff members will be honored at a Commendations Ceremony. Several are being recognized with awards for lifesaving, bravery, outstanding community service, merit, and unit citations.
The 2022-2023 esteemed awards include:

Those being recognized include Deputy Joseph Anderson, who was shot during a traffic stop last week. He was transported via life flight to a hospital, where he underwent surgery, and he is still recovering. Please pray for Deputy Anderson, his family, and his loved ones during this difficult time.
HCSO will also recognize Deputy Austin Howard for his life-saving efforts a few days ago. He saw an apparent drunk driver, driving their vehicle the wrong way approaching him, He strategically positioned his vehicle between the intoxicated driver and innocent citizens on the roadway. While he was struck by the suspect vehicle at a high speed, thankfully, Deputy Howard did not sustain serious injuries. Body cam video of the incident.
“I am truly humbled to work alongside these phenomenal public servants,” said Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. “We have a tremendous obligation to our communities, and these commendations reflect the excellent work our teammates perform across our agency, day in and day out.”
