Travel delays expected overnight for those traveling Robert Smalls Parkway near W.K. Alston Drive in Beaufort 
Motorists who travel Robert Smalls Parkway near W.K. Alston Drive in Beaufort can expect travel delays throughout the night as travel lanes have been reduced due to a ruptured water line that damaged the road.
As of 8:30 p.m., the two eastbound lanes of Robert Smalls Parkway (heading into Beaufort) remain open to traffic. The two westbound lanes (heading towards Bluffton) are closed to traffic; however, traffic is being detoured around the damage via the median.
It is unknown at this time how long this detour is expected to be in place. The Sheriff’s Office will provide an update regarding the situation in the morning, Tuesday, August 22, at around 6 a.m.
Earlier today, Monday, August 21, 2023, shortly before 5:30 p.m., construction crews working in the area struck a main water line. Beaufort-Jasper Water & Sewer Authority (BJWSA) responded to access the situation, as well as the damage.
