Motorists urged to use caution & expect delays when traveling Robert Smalls Parkway near W.K. Alston Drive in Beaufort 
Motorists who travel Robert Smalls Parkway near W.K. Alston Drive in Beaufort can expect travel delays today, August 22, 2023, as travel lanes have been reduced due to a ruptured water line that damaged the road.
As of 6 a.m., the two eastbound lanes of Robert Smalls Parkway (heading into Beaufort) remain open to traffic. The two westbound lanes (heading towards Bluffton) have been reduced to one lane; however, traffic is being detoured via the median as well.
We urge motorists to allow themselves extra time during their commute and to use caution in the area.
On Monday, August 21, 2023, shortly before 5:30 p.m., construction crews working in the area struck a main water line. Beaufort-Jasper Water & Sewer Authority (BJWSA) responded to access the situation, as well as the damage. Crews worked throughout the night and will continue their efforts today.
