OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE FROM THE CITY OF MILES CITY AND CUSTER COUNTY WATER SEWER DISTRICT FOR AUGUST 22ND AT 2:00PM:

The City of Miles City and the Custer County Water Sewer District water systems are sill under a boil water advisory.  On August 20th approximately 50,000 gallons of un-disinfected water was pumped into the city distribution system.  Disinfection is required to kill natural occurring microbes in water that many not have been removed by the treatment process.  Because water can travel through the distribution system without first going to a storage tank, we do not know where in the system that water went.  Because of this, a boil water advisory was issued.  City crews have been flushing water mains and sampling disinfection residuals in the city system and that of the Custer County Water Sewer District to ensure that there is adequate disinfection residual in the system.  The City is working in collaboration with the Custer County Water Sewer District, Public Health, Disaster Emergency Services and Montana Department of Enviromental Quality (DEQ) to return the systems to normal as soon as it is safe to do so.  We have been informed by the DEQ that the boil advisory will remain in effect for the mininum of a week.

BOIL WATER ORDER is still in effect until further notice.  Please keep advising friends, elderly, neighbors and family members.

Continue to boil water that will be consumed or used to wash dishes.  Bring tap water to a rolling boil for one minute and cool before using.  Bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and preparing food until further notice. You are able to shower, do laundry and water yards or gardens.
