Press Release: Victim Shot Confronting Thieves

On Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2023, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety Officers responded to a residence located on the 1500 block of Klamath Dr, on the report of a shooting incident involving an individual. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim who had sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. Officers administered emergency medical care at the scene. The victim was subsequently transported to a local hospital by ambulance for further medical treatment. The victim’s condition is stable and he is anticipated to be released later today.

The preliminary investigation revealed that four suspects were in the process of stealing the catalytic converter from the victim’s vehicle that was parked in his driveway. The victim confronted the suspects outside his residence. During the confrontation, one of the suspects fired multiple shots at the victim, one of which struck the victim in the leg.

The suspects fled the scene in a dark colored sedan. The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety is actively investigating this matter. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Detective N. Kakis at (408) 730-7110.
