Women Arrested After Traffic Stop Leads to the Discovery of Fictitious Currency

DATE/TIME: August 19, 2023 / 8:43 p.m.

INCIDENT: Possession of Stolen Property, Making or Possessing Fictitious Bills, Notes, or Checks with Intent to Defraud.  

LOCATION: Locust Avenue / Bear Valley Road, Hesperia

SUSPECT(S): Savannah Duncan, 30-year-old, resident of Los Angeles Catherine Floyd, 19-year-old, resident of Los Angeles


SUMMARY: On August 19, 2023, at about 8:43 p.m., deputies with the Hesperia Police Department responded to an area check near Bear Valley Road and Mariposa Road in the city of Hesperia. 

Deputies arrived on scene and conducted a traffic stop on a 2019 Honda Civic. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Los Angeles, as a result of a carjacking. The driver, identified as Savanah Duncan, and the passenger, identified as Catherine Floyd, were detained and placed under arrest. During a search of the vehicle, approximately $1,400 of fictitious $20 bills were located in Floyd and Duncan’s purses along with merchandise purchased using the fictitious $20 bills. 

Deputies and detectives served a search warrant at the hotel where Floyd and Duncan were staying and located approximately $3,340 in additional fictitious $20 bills. 
 
Floyd was transported to the High Desert Detention Center and booked for PC476- Making or Possessing Fictitious Bills, Notes, or Checks with Intent to Defraud. Duncan was arrested for PC496- Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and PC476- Making or Possessing Fictitious Bills, Notes, or Checks with Intent to Defraud. Duncan  was later released to the Los Angeles Police Department.
