Detectives Identify and Arrest Suspect After Shooting at an Occupied Vehicle in Highland
DATE/TIME: July 24, 2023, at approximately 2:00 p.m.
INCIDENT: P.C. 246- Shooting at an Occupied Vehicle.
LOCATION: 25300 Block of Pacific Street, Highland
SUSPECT(S): Jeremiah Mendoza, 18-year-old Resident of Highland
VICTIM(S): Confidential
SUMMARY: On Monday, July 24, 2023, deputies from the Highland Sheriff's Station responded to a report of shots fired at a vehicle in the area of Del Rosa Drive and Pacific Street in Highland. It was determined an unknown suspect, driving a black Mini Coooper, fired one bullet from a pistol at the victim. The shooting happened following an incident where the victim yelled at the suspect after a traffic collision was narrowly avoided between both vehicles. After the shooting the Mini Cooper fled the area. The incident was captured on video surveillance.
During the course of the investigation, the suspect was identified as 18-year-old Jeremiah Mendoza. A warrant for Mendoza's arrest and a search warrant for Mendoza's residence were authored.
On Wednesday, August 24, 2023, detectives and deputies from the Highland Sheriff's Station served a search warrant at Mendoza's residence. Mendoza was located at the residence and was arrested.
Mendoza was arrested for violation of California Penal Code Section 246 - Shooting at an Occupied Vehicle, and an unrelated outstanding active warrant. Mendoza was booked into Central Detention Center with a $300,000 bail.
