Incident Summary:
On August 22, 2023, the Petaluma Police Department received a call from the family of George Ferguson due to his unknown whereabouts. Ferguson who had recently purchased and was aboard a thirty-foot sailboat, had not been heard from since August 18th, 2023. At that time, he told family he had run aground near Alcatraz Island, had to be assisted by the United States Coast Guard, and was sailing back toward Petaluma.
On August 26, 2023, the Solano County Sheriff’s Officer Maritime Unit alerted the United States Coast Guard to a boat in the San Pablo Bay which was determined to be Ferguson’s. Ferguson was found in good health and his boat was towed to a marina in Vallejo. Details of Ferguson’s travels and condition of his boat are unavailable at this time. Ferguson’s family has been contacted and he is no longer considered missing.
The Petaluma Police Department would like to thank the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, the Solano County Sheriff’s Office, and the United States Coast Guard for their efforts to help locate Ferguson.
