Weather Update #1: Tropical Depression 10
As Tropical Depression 10 moves into the Gulf of Mexico and closer to the Florida Panhandle, we are monitoring the potential impact to Jekyll Island. The Depression is anticipated to become Tropical Storm Idalia, and likely Hurricane Idalia by the time it makes landfall. At this time, the intensity of the storm upon landfall is still uncertain, but impacts will continue across our area on Wednesday and early Thursday as future Idalia turns northeastward over southern Georgia and the Carolinas.
We are working closely with local emergency management agencies to receive the most up-to-date weather information.
The National Weather Service Jacksonville has confirmed that hazardous marine and beach conditions are expected to develop on Monday as swells from Distant Hurricane Franklin reach our coast. Tidal levels will also become increasingly elevated along the Atlantic Coast and within the St. Johns River basin this week due to the upcoming "Supermoon."
