On August 21, 2023 at approximately 3:52 p.m., Santa Clara police officers responded to the report of a collision involving multiple vehicles on southbound Lawrence Expressway north of the El Camino Real off ramp. When officers arrived, they located a silver Mercedes which had collided with two other vehicles. Prior to the collision on Lawrence Expressway, the vehicle was seen accelerating east through a stop sign from the parking lot located at 3705 El Camino Real. The driver of the Mercedes was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. No other drivers were injured in the collision.
The driver of the Mercedes was identified as a 93-year-old female. She is a resident of Santa Clara. On August 27, 2023 at 9:55 pm, the 93- year- old driver of the Mercedes was pronounced deceased by VMC medical staff.
