SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT National Weather Service ANCHORAGE AK 424 PM AKDT Mon Aug 28 2023 AKZ181-185-187-300400- Alaska Peninsula-Eastern Aleutians-Central Aleutians-Including the cities of Cold Bay, Sand Point, Unalaska, Nikolski,and Atka and Adak 424 PM AKDT Mon Aug 28 2023 ...STRONG WINDS, HIGH WAVES, AND MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN EXPECTED WEDNESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY... Confidence is increasing that a strong low will bring impactful weather to the Aleutian Islands and Alaska Peninsula on Wednesday and Thursday. Winds: Gusts of 40-50 mph likely, with gusts as high as 70 mph possible. Waves: Wave heights up to 20 ft expected along the Central Aleutians and Southern Bering Sea, with 25-35 ft waves likely in coastal waters south of the Eastern Aleutians and Alaska Peninsula. Rain: Rain totals of about 0.5 inches in the Eastern Aleutians,with 1-1.5 inches in the Central Aleutians and the Pacific coast of the Alaska Peninsula. Preparedness: As the storm approaches, please monitor: weather.gov/afc for forecast updates and begin securing loose objects that could be moved or damaged by strong winds.
