Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officer charged with strangulation, domestic battery, and battery resulting in bodily injury following IMPD Special Investigation Unit investigation.
On Sunday, August 27, 2023, just before 10:30 p.m., IMPD officers were dispatched to the 3500 block of Wild Ivy Ct. in reference to a disturbance involving allegations of a possible assault. When it was discovered that one of the involved parties was a current off-duty IMPD officer, detectives from IMPD’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) were requested for further investigation. Glen Schmidt was arrested for strangulation, domestic battery, and battery. This case was presented to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office for a final charging decision.
On Monday, August 28, 2023, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office filed charges on Schmidt for strangulation, domestic battery, and battery resulting in bodily injury.
Schmidt is an 18-year veteran of IMPD and was most recently assigned to Northwest District. IMPD detectives have been working with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office on this case and will continue their collaboration. Officer Schmidt is on administrative leave pending a thorough review of the probable cause affidavit and other investigative details.
Schmidt has resigned and is no longer with the IMPD.
Schmidt, as with any person arrested, should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
