SUBJECT: Arrest made in assault with a deadly weapon/hate crime
DATE/TIME: August 28th 2023
LOCATION: 200 block of Winslow Street, Redwood City
Media Information: On August 28th at around 1:38 PM, an assault with a deadly weapon and hate crime took place in the area of 4th Ave. and Spring St. in Redwood City. A group of subjects were loitering and drinking at the above location. The suspect, Redwood City resident Cipriano Munoz (43) made homophobic slurs to the victim before punching him in the face multiple times and hitting him on the neck with an aluminum pipe. The aluminum pipe was a piece from a crutch that belonged to another subject. The victim suffered minor injuries to the face and neck but declined medical attention. The suspect was taken into custody and booked into the San Mateo County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon and for a felony hate crime statute.
