Hardeeville SC – August 29, 2023 - The City of Hardeeville is monitoring Hurricane Idalia. Municipal emergency officials are in contact with Jasper County officials and other surrounding communities. Our area is expected to receive high winds and several inches of rain tomorrow. This could bring possible flooding and power outages. Emergency operations personnel say now is the time to go through your checklist to make sure you have everything you need to make it through this storm. Your checklist should include the following items:
> Have a battery-operated radio with fresh batteries (preferably a weather radio).
> Charge your phones and other electronic devices that you will need.
> Make sure to have a good working flashlight with good batteries.
> Make sure you have your medications up to date and medical supplies for a few days.
> Secure items in your yard that could be blown away or moved by heavy winds.
> Use caution with generators and follow directions. Never use in an enclosed area
> Once the storm starts, please do not try to travel through bad conditions.
> Make sure to have food and water supplies for a few days. Remember you may not have the power to prepare food.

Dominion Energy also wants to remind its customers to stay safe and follow these tips:
• Download the Dominion Energy app. The fastest way to report or track an outage is using the Dominion Energy app, which is free in the Apple and Google Play stores. Customers may also report outages by going to DominionEnergy.com or calling 800-251-7234.
• Follow Dominion Energy on Twitter at @DomEnergySC. The company will provide regular updates and additional tips to help keep customers informed and safe.
• Stay away from downed power lines. Always assume downed power lines are energized and dangerous. Keep in mind the downed lines may not always be visible, and use extra caution when walking outside after a storm. Please remain at least 30 feet away and ensure that others avoid the downed line. South Carolina customers should call1-888-333-4465 right away to report a downed power line.
• Don’t turn off natural gas service. Natural gas lines are typically not impacted during a hurricane or severe winds, so natural gas service is rarely interrupted. It is not necessary to turn off your natural gas service at the meter during a hurricane; this valve should only be turned off by the utility or emergency personnel.
Emergency operations officials remind you to pay attention to reliable sources for information including Nixle alerts and social media alerts from official sources.
