OPD NEWS:
The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is investigating a bomb threat on August 29, 2023, at Chabot Elementary School, in the 6600 block of Chabot Road.
Just before 7:30 AM, an employee with the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) notified OPD of a bomb threat. Officers immediately responded to the scene, established a perimeter, and began the safe evacuation of approximately 50 students and staff members. All students were reunited with their parents/guardians.
OPD collaborated with the Alameda County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit to ensure the school was safe to re-enter. ACSO did not locate any explosives. Just before 12:00 PM, OPD broke down the perimeter.
In addition, OPD is actively investigating a hate speech incident and any possible connection to the bomb threat. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is assisting OPD with the threat made at the school.
This is an ongoing investigation. No additional details are being released at this time.
