Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Management Center continues to monitor Hurricane Idalia
Today, August 30, 2023, Beaufort County is currently under a hurricane warning, as well as a flood warning.
We have already seen periods of heavy rain in the area this morning that has caused pooling rain on the roadways at times. Wind speeds are expected to increase after noon today and continue throughout the nighttime hours.
The storm surge forecast has increased to 3-5 feet. Residents in low-lying areas that are prone to flooding should expect to see water inundation and should be prepared to seek higher ground.
We urge our community members to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary. As a reminder, it is unsafe to cross elevated roadways/bridges during periods of high winds. The South Carolina Department of Transportation will determine if bridges will close. Currently, all bridges are open.
Jasper County Emergency Services has opened and is staffing the Jasper Shelter located at Ridgeland High School, 250 Jaguar Trail, Ridgeland, SC. Anyone who may need a place to shelter from the storm is welcome. Please bring personal hygiene products, bedding items, any necessary medications, a food supply, and identifying documents. This shelter is a pet-friendly shelter. Anyone who may need information related to the shelter is encouraged to call 843-726-4421.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Management Center will be staffed with our emergency service partners beginning at 2:00 p.m. through the duration of the storm to address any storm-related emergencies.
Please continue to monitor local, updated weather advisories.
