As the winds pick up in our area, here's a reminder from our local power companies to report outages and downed lines
From Palmetto Electric - Palmetto Electric Cooperative is reminding its customers to be prepared for power outages. They say outages are expected today and possibly Thursday Outages are expected as forecasted tropical force winds move through the region. As a result, Palmetto Electric Cooperative has entered into its emergency operations protocol and our personnel have been busy strategically preparing supply yards and staging vehicles, equipment and fuel at Palmetto Electric warehouses and locations. All essential operations personnel, including crews, engineers and call center representatives, will have a presence at our Hilton Head Island, New River, Ridgeland and Hampton locations throughout the duration of the storm. An update will be sent out should this change due to deteriorating weather conditions and/or potential bridge closures. We will respond to outages during the storm – including overnight outages – so long as conditions allow. Additionally, we will remain in close contact with our statewide organization, Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina, should outages begin to escalate and the deployment of additional linemen crews from other cooperatives are needed.
Please note, all Palmetto Electric Cooperative offices will be closed to regular business on Wednesday, August 30th. Regular business office closures for Thursday, August 31st will be determined at a later time and an update will be sent out accordingly.
Please always report outages and downed power lines. You can do this several ways:

- Login to MyEnergy Online
- Use the MyEnergy Mobile App

From Dominion:
Dominion Energy is ready to respond to any challenges that may arise during the storm. Dominion Energy will have its crew members strategically stationed throughout our service area as well as communicate with neighboring utilities and contract companies to secure additional resources, if the need arises.
If your city or county has bridge or road closures, please let me know ASAP so that our restoration crews will be aware. Please also let me know if you have any emergency shelter openings and the shelter location.
Here are four quick tips for customers to prepare and stay safe:
• Download the Dominion Energy app. The fastest way to report or track an outage is using the Dominion Energy app, which is free in the Apple and Google Play stores. Customers may also report outages by going to DominionEnergy.com or calling 800-251-7234.
• Follow Dominion Energy on Twitter at @DomEnergySC. The company will provide regular updates and additional tips to help keep customers informed and safe.
• Stay away from downed power lines. Always assume downed power lines are energized and dangerous. Keep in mind the downed lines may not always be visible, and use extra caution when walking outside after a storm. Please remain at least 30 feet away and ensure that others avoid the downed line. South Carolina customers should call1-888-333-4465 right away to report a downed power line.
• Don’t turn off natural gas service. Natural gas lines are typically not impacted during a hurricane or severe winds, so natural gas service is rarely interrupted. It is not necessary to turn off your natural gas service at the meter during a hurricane; this valve should only be turned off by the utility or emergency personnel.
