Weather Update #6: Hurricane Idalia
Hurricane Idalia has passed Glynn County and continues now towards the Carolinas. While the weather impacts from the storm have been reduced, the area will continue to see higher-than-normal wind gusts and isolated rainfall.
Due to nightfall, crews will not be able to fully assess or clear debris until the morning. Residents, island employees, and their guests should use caution when moving around the island as there may be missing road/directional signs and the possibility of further downed trees from softened soil is high.
The Sidney Lanier Bridge will REMAIN CLOSED until tomorrow when it can be fully inspected. There is no confirmed time from GDOT for when that will be. Those traveling to/from Jekyll Island should plan to use an alternate route through mid-morning.
Georgia Power is continuing to work through power outages in the area as the weather/wind permits. Due to nightfall, crews will not be working after 11 p.m. and will resume work at 5 a.m. Residents and businesses without power at 11 p.m. should plan to be without power until at least the early morning.
