SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT National Weather Service ANCHORAGE AK 419 PM AKDT Wed Aug 30 2023 AKZ181-185-187-010030- Alaska Peninsula-Eastern Aleutians-Central Aleutians- Including the cities of Cold Bay, Sand Point, Unalaska, Nikolski, and Atka and Adak 419 PM AKDT Wed Aug 30 2023 ...STRONG WINDS, HIGH WAVES, AND MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN EXPECTED TONIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY... A strong low immediately south of the Central Aleutians will move into the southern Bering through Thursday with impactful weather forecasted for the Aleutian Islands and Alaska Peninsula tonight through Thursday. Winds: Gusts of 40-50 mph likely, with gusts as high as 65 mph possible. Highest winds are expected through favored bays and passes and along the Pacific side of the Aleutian Chain. Waves: Wave heights up to 20 ft expected along the Central Aleutians and Southern Bering Sea, with 25-35 ft waves likely in coastal waters south of the Eastern Aleutians and Alaska Peninsula. Rain: Additional rain totals of around 0.25 to 0.5 inches in the Eastern Aleutians expected tonight, with 0.5 to 1.0 inches in the Central Aleutians and the Pacific coast of the Alaska Peninsula tonight through Thursday night. Corridor of the heaviest, persistent rainfall is expected to be near Adak Island and the Pacific side of the Alaska Peninsula tonight. Preparedness: As the storm approaches and impacts locations, please monitor weather.gov/afc for forecast updates and secure loose objects that could be moved or damaged by strong winds.
