Pedestrian Struck by Vehicle, Killed While Crossing the Street 
Last night, at approximately 10:43 pm, a male pedestrian on a motor scooter was crossing Travis Boulevard at Clay Street when he was struck by a vehicle.
The pedestrian, who is not being identified at this time pending notification of next-of-kin, suffered severe injuries and was declared deceased at the scene by Fairfield Fire paramedics.
The Traffic Unit was called out and immediately took over the investigation.
A Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) examined the driver, 60-year-old Willie Weaver of Fairfield. Following the examination, Mr. Weaver was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and booked for gross vehicular manslaughter.
At the time of the incident, Mr. Weaver was driving a black 2001 Honda Accord, which was towed from the scene.
