Victim Robbed During Meet Up to Sell a Watch; Suspect Quickly Apprehended and Arrested

DATE/TIME: September 2, 2023 / 5:16 p.m.

INCIDENT: PC 211 - Robbery

LOCATION: 20400 block of State Highway 18, Apple Valley

VICTIM(S): 21-year-old male of Apple Valley
  
SUSPECT(S): Kevin Mark Ayala, 30-year-old male of Apple Valley 

SUMMARY: On Saturday, September 2, 2023, the 21-year-old male victim arranged to meet an unknown person to sell his Apple Watch. The two agreed to meet in a shopping center parking lot on State Highway 18, in the town of Apple Valley. Once the victim handed the watch to the suspect, the suspect grabbed the victim’s wallet and left the area on a bicycle. The victim called 911 and deputies were dispatched to investigate. 

Deputies G. Gregory and B. Clancy were responding to contact the victim when they saw a subject matching the description of the suspect. Deputy T. Arlotti was also in the area and was able to stop the suspect from continuing on his bicycle. Deputy Gregory conducted an investigation which led to the subject, Kevin Mark Ayala, being arrested for robbery.

Ayala was arrested and transported to High Desert Detention Center where he was booked for robbery. He is currently being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Apple Valley Police Department reminds the public to be safe when selling goods to another person. The following tips are recommended: 1 – always meet in a public place; 2 – bring someone with you when meeting to make a sale or to purchase anything; 3 – ask to see the other party’s identification and write down as much information about them as possible (license plate number, vehicle description, driver’s license number, physical description).
