Earlier this afternoon, the contractor hit a water main under the LMD bridge while working on the bridge replacement project. Village staff acted quickly to shut off the water to the area to prevent water loss and immediately called someone in to repair the break. Unfortunately, the Village learned too late that one of the valves further west along Lake Mendota Drive on the City of Madison side was turned off and when the crew turned off the valve on our end, it caused a massive increase in the pressure and caused a watermain break on LMD near the golf course. Currently, the water main at the bridge has been repaired but the break further west on LMD will not be addressed tonight. We have been able to all but turn off the water in the area of the break by turning off a shut-off valve at the edge of the golf course. At this time, no homes should be without water.  Thank you for your patience as we worked this out and we apologize for any inconvenience caused by this issue.
