IMPD Detectives Make Multiple Arrests in Gun-Related Crimes on Wednesday

INDIANAPOLIS- IMPD Aggravated Assault and Robbery Detectives made multiple arrests on Wednesday from three unrelated incidents that all involved the use of firearms.

Aaron Gordy (37-years-old) was arrested for his alleged role in a shooting that occurred on Tuesday, September 5, in the 2700 block of Boulevard Place at approximately 1:30 pm.  During that incident a 60-year-old man was reportedly shot.  IMPD’s Violent Crime Unit (VCU) located Gordy on Wednesday and he was subsequently arrested.

IMPD Southwest District officers located 18-year-old Edward Brewington and 18-year-old Zyarous Ray following their role in an alleged robbery Wednesday afternoon in the 7600 block of Wyckford Ct.  Officers were able to locate Brewington and Ray thanks to community cooperation, the use of video surveillance, and proactive police work.  Detectives arrested them arrested for robbery.  Officers recovered a handgun, a machinegun conversion device, and narcotics.

Detectives arrested three juveniles on Wednesday for their alleged role in a robbery with two people shot at 3500 N Shadeland Ave from Sunday, August 20.  During that incident a 37-year-old man was located a motel and identified as a potential victim in a robbery. They also located a 15-year-old with a gunshot wound and a 16-year-old male was located a few blocks away with a gunshot wound.  Detectives believe three juveniles, including two juveniles who were shot, robbed the 37-year-old victim, at least one of the suspects fired shots, and it resulted in the two individuals being shot.  Detectives were able to use information from members of the community, video surveillance, and other investigative tools to identify the suspects involved.

Subsequently, detectives conducted three search warrants on Wednesday, September 6, recovered five firearms, and made three arrests.  Two 15-year-old males and a 16-year-old male were arrested for armed robbery, criminal recklessness, pointing a firearm, and dangerous possession of a firearm.  VCU, IMPD’s Southeast District Violent Crimes Task Force, and the IMPD SWAT team were instrumental in these arrests.

Members of the community were cooperative in all of these cases and available technology played an important role in two of these cases.  IMPD remains committed to being laser focused on addressing violent crime.  These three cases are a key example of that.

An arrest is merely an accusation and all suspects should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.  The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decision in all of these cases.
