The National Weather Service in Morristown has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for... Eastern Sullivan County in east Tennessee... North central Johnson County in east Tennessee... Central Washington County in southwestern Virginia...

* Until 545 PM EDT.

* At 448 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 9 miles south of Abingdon, moving northeast at 15 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

* Locations impacted include... Abingdon, Glade Spring, Damascus, Lindell, and Emory-Meadow View. This includes Interstate 81 in Virginia between mile markers 14 and 34.

* AFFECTED AREAS: JOHNSON, TN ... SULLIVAN, TN ... WASHINGTON, VA

Instructions:

Prepare immediately for large hail and damaging winds. People outside should move immediately to shelter inside a strong building. Stay away from windows. Large hail, damaging wind, and continuous cloud to ground lightning are occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
