Detectives in Chino Hills Identify Robbery Suspect Through DNA and Arrest a 19-year-old Covina Man

LOCATION: 3600 Block of Grand Avenue, Chino Hills, Ca
SUSPECT(S): Johnny Lee Richardson III, 19-years-old, Resident of Covina
VICTIM(S): Confidential
SUMMARY: On Sunday, August 21, 2022, the victim was on a date at a local restaurant. The victim's right leg was in a cast from a pre-existing injury and required the use of crutches. While leaving the restaurant, the victim was attacked by two unknown male suspects. He was punched and kicked while on the ground. One suspect pointed a gun at the victim and they demanded the victim's wallet and vehicle keys. Fearing further injury, the victim submitted to the suspects without resistance. Ths suspects feld in the victim's vehicle from the scene.
Investigators from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department- Chino Hills Station located and processed the vehicle for evidence including latent fingerprints and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) samples from inside the vehicle. The DNA samples were a match to Johnny Lee Richardson III, a resident of Covina.
On September 7, 2023, at 9:51 a.m., the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested Richardson without incident and he was interviewed by detectives from the Chino Hills Station.
Richardson was booked at the West Valley Detention Center for PC211- Robbery, PC245(a)(1)- Assault with a Deadly, VC10851- Vehicle Theft.
