Driver arrested after pursuit of smash and grab burglary in Moorpark

Simi Valley Police officers were dispatched to the T-Mobile store in the 2900 block of Cochran Street for two males wearing ski masks outside the location.  Those suspects fled the area in a black Jeep SUV before officers arrived or any crime was committed.  Approximately 15 minutes later, as officers searched the area, Ventura County Sheriff  Department Moorpark station dispatched a "smash and grab" burglary at their T-Mobile Moorpark location.  The suspect vehicle in that incident was described as a black Jeep SUV with license plate information.

A short time later, SVPD officers located that vehicle eastbound on the 118 freeway near Erringer Road.  SVPD Officers attempted a traffic stop, which turned into a pursuit on the highway.  An LAPD helicopter, which was on-scene already assisting with the original area check, provided support in the pursuit.  Due to heavy traffic, extreme speeds, and a concern for public safety, SVPD terminated its involvement in the pursuit at the 118 freeway near Balboa Blvd.  LAPD continued monitoring the suspect's vehicle via helicopter while CHP West Valley responded to the area.

CHP West Valley located the vehicle, and the driver and passenger were arrested. The driver, identified as Dejion Rashawn Swisher-Rice, a 20-year-old resident of Bakersfield, and the passenger, identified as Todjuan Imonie Cook, a 24-year-old resident of Los Angeles, were arrested for felony grand theft and felony conspiracy by Ventura County Sheriffs. Additionally, SVPD arrested Swisher-Rice for felony evading. Both subjects were later booked at Ventura County Jail.
