Incident: Driver Arrested for DUI After Rollover Crash
Occurred Date : September 7th, 2023
Occurred Time: 10:24 PM
Location: E. Washington Street/ Ely Blvd. South, Petaluma
Suspect: Htein Win (41-year-old Oakland Resident)
On 09/07/2023 at approximately 10:24 PM, an officer with the Petaluma Police Department was driving in the area of E. Washington Street and Ely Blvd. South, when he observed a vehicle that had been involved in a collision and was resting on its side.
The officer attempted to extricate the driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, but was unable to do so due to the major damage the vehicle had sustained. Officers continued to try and get the driver out of the vehicle until firefighters with Petaluma Fire Department arrived on scene.
The Petaluma firefighters employed the “Jaws of Life” and were able to create an opening for them to remove the driver from the vehicle. The driver was identified as Htein Win, a resident of Oakland. As officers were investigating the collision, they located a large amount of alcohol in the vehicle and noticed objective signs of alcohol intoxication coming from Win.
Win was transported by paramedics from the Petaluma Fire Department to a local hospital for evaluation with moderate injuries. Win was ultimately arrested for 23152(a) CVC- DUI/ 14601.2(a) CVC- Drive with a suspended driver license for DUI and 1203.2 PC- Violation of Felony Probation.
No other people were injured, and no other vehicles were involved. The vehicle destroyed several trees and a city sign. The vehicle was ultimately impounded.
The Petaluma Police Department would like to thank the Petaluma Fire Department for their prompt response and assistance at the scene.
