Driver Arrested for Felony Hit and Run of a Pedestrian
 
Officers located and arrested a driver after he hit a pedestrian and fled the scene.
 
San Mateo, CA – On September 7, 2023, at 4:57 p.m., the San Mateo Police Department received a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of East Hillsdale Boulevard and Curtiss Street.  Responding officers arrived at the scene within minutes of receiving the call and located a 41-year-old male victim who had sustained multiple injuries.  The driver, Zachary Edwards, did not stop and fled the scene in a white Toyota Tacoma.
 
Emergency medical services were immediately dispatched, and the victim was transported to a local trauma center for treatment.  The victim is currently in critical condition. 
 
Witnesses were able to provide a vehicle description and license plate number of the suspect’s truck to arriving officers.  Moments later, the vehicle was seen driving north on El Camino Real.  Officers were able to safely stop the truck and arrest Edwards.

20001(a) CVC- Hit and Run resulting in an injury.
